Installation Guide: Garage LED Lights

Tylex Designs

Safety First

  • Turn power off at the breaker before any electrical work.
  • Hardwiring: hire a licensed electrician.
  • Use ladders, PPE, and anchors appropriate for your ceiling type.

Summary

  • Skill level: Easy for plug-and-play; Moderate with suspension; Pro for hardwire
  • Typical duration (mounting only):

Hex & Expo LED Lights90–120 min
PRO Models: 120 min+
Add 30–60 min for suspension setup and leveling

  • Color temperature: 6500K (bright white for detailing/work)
  • Mounting: Flush (low ceilings) or Suspension (3 m+ or wide spans)

Tools & Materials

  • Tape measure, laser/standard level, painter’s tape/string line
  • Drill + bits/anchors; screwdriver set
  • Flush clips or suspension cable kit (as applicable)
  • Wire management (clips/raceway), zip ties
  • Voltage tester, PPE (gloves, glasses)
  • Power option: plug-and-play cable or hardwire by an electrician

Step 1: Plan the Layout

  1. Match pattern to bay size (Hex 14 single, Hex 15/PRO larger).

  2. Keep light centered over work zones (hood/roof), not just the room center.

  3. Check ceiling obstacles: openers, rails, sprinklers.

  4. Aim for even coverage—avoid big gaps that create shadows.

Step 2: Mark the Pattern

  1. Use painter’s tape or a chalk line to outline the pattern on the ceiling.

  2. Mark anchor points and ensure symmetry; verify distances with a tape/laser.

Step 3: Mounting — Flush

  1. Locate joists or use suitable anchors for your ceiling type.

  2. Fix mounting clips according to the pattern; keep them square.

  3. Snap rails/sections into clips; do not force misaligned joints.

  4. Route cables neatly along joists/perimeter.

Step 4: Mounting — Suspension

  1. Measure the drop height; cut or set cables equally.

  2. Install ceiling anchors and hang cables; level all corners.

  3. Assemble the pattern at working height, then raise gradually.

  4. Confirm level and tension; secure cable crimps.

Step 5: Power Options

  1. Plug-and-Play: connect the kit cable to a controlled outlet; secure slack with clips.

  2. Hardwire (Electrician): connect to a dedicated circuit and switch; follow local code and polarity.

Step 6: Test & Commission

  1. Power on; check for consistent illumination and correct polarity on connectors.

  2. Nudge or re-seat joints if any segment flickers.

  3. Tidy cable runs and label connection points for future service.

Pro Tips

  • Keep 6500K throughout—avoid mixing color temperatures.

  • Plan photo angles; a consistent pattern helps content look pro.

  • Use raceway along walls/ceiling edges for invisible wiring.

  • Take a short test video to verify low flicker on camera.

Maintenance

  • Wipe rails with a soft cloth; avoid harsh chemicals.

  • Inspect connectors and cable tension every 6–12 months.

  • Keep a small spare pack of rails and connectors.

FAQs

Flush or suspension? Flush for low ceilings; suspension for 3 m+ or when you want ultra-even spread.

Will LEDs flicker on video? Quality drivers minimize visible flicker; confirm with a 10-second test clip.

Can I dim the setup? Use compatible dimmers/drivers (check kit specs) or a switched circuit.

What circuit do I need? Your electrician will size the circuit to the kit load and local code.
